Appalachian Snake Handler Travels to "Snake Island" Brazil
EAP: Appalachian Snake Handler Travels to "Snake Island" Brazil
EAP: Tex Byrnes, a preacher from the Appalachian region who has handled
many thousands of snakes over the years decided to follow what he
believed was God's voice to embark on the ultimate snake handling
challenge. Byrnes caught a flight to Brazil to visit the infamous "Snake
Island" more properly called "Ilha da Queimada".
It is illegal to visit the island because of its huge concentration of
poisonous snakes. Tex told an EAP reporter prior to departure that it is
proper, indeed moral, to break the laws of mankind where these conflict
with God's laws. He took seriously the teaching of Mark 16:17-18 which
tells Christians that they shall take up serpents and they will not be
harmed and of Luke 10:19 that they can tread on snakes and scorpions.
Tex was inspired by John Chau who visited North Sentinel Island in the
Andaman and Nicobar island group. He believed that to mix it with
hostile snakes in the NAME OF JESUS would be the equal of John Chau's
effort of mixing it with hostile barbaric pagans in the Indian Ocean.
Byrnes told his congregation that to be a martyr for Christ was to
follow the path of our lord savior.
Although Brynes had little knowledge of Portuguese he did managed to
make his intentions known to residents of a village in the municipality
of Peruibe which he was using as a base for his visit to Ilha da
Quemada. The local people tried to discourage him from what they said
was a fool's errand. Word of his intention to visit the island reached
the local police. The police visited Byrnes in his hotel room to warn
him off. Confident however that the Lord Jesus would look after him
Byrnes chose to ignore all warnings.
On the morning of the 18th January 2019 Tex Byrnes set off for the
island 33 kilometres off the mainland in a small boat stolen from a
local fisherman to the island evading the authorities. The next day on
the 19th, authorities alerted by reports of a stolen boat, sent out a
naval patrol. The abandoned boat was found on Ilha da Queimada. A drone
quadcopter was sent over island and found a motionless man between some
trees, apparently dead. His body will not be recovered but expenses of
the search effort will be billed to his family.
A spokesman for his church where he preached issued a statement
declaring the visit of Tex Byrnes to Ilha da Queimada to be an
overwhelming success for the legions of Christ against the legions of
Satan. "I could feel Satan shaking at his knees at news of Tex facing
off the serpents of hell on that god damned island. The serpents had to
take out this most powerful witness for Jesus. I know he would have said
'Forgive them father for they know not what they do'. A true martyr for
Christ".
